    When I get a new (working Smiley) PDS version (as  now the 3.5.5.5), do the following
    (of course make sure that the PDS is not running):

    First rename the currently used version's folder (with me it's always PROTONIDE) like so:
      PROTONIDE_3554.

    Then create a new folder named as PROTONIDE in the same place.

    Now you can install the new version here (although I do not install, but only extract it)
    but do not run the program yet.

    Make sure the same folder-structure as the old, and do not forget to delete the
    PROTEUSIDE\Plugins\VHBExplorer\ISIS folder (this is the demo Proteus, larger than 300M)

    Perform the required healing ( Smiley) operations, eg change the PrPlus.exe, then the new PDS is ready to run
    with the same (old) settings stored in the registry.

    This method works well for me from the 3.5.0.6 version (I think because the major version is the same, ie 3.5).

    The same is working well with the Proteus 7.xx versions,  but the new v8 will be other I think.

    And if you want to return tentatively to an older version, simply rename the appropriate folders. Like this:
     first  rename
     PROTONIDE  to  PROTONIDE_3555
     then rename
     PROTONIDE_3506  to  PROTONIDE
