    11. İnternete bağlı PC’lerin üzerinde günümüzün saldırgan solucanlarına, Truva atlarına ve hacker’lara karşı koruma sağlayan bir virüs yazılımı ve güvenlik duvarı artık zorunlu bileşenler halini aldı. Şimdiye kadar genellikle iki program kurulmak zorundaydı. Hem güvenlik duvarı hem de virüs koruma arayan kullanıcı, genellikle farklı teknolojiler kullanan üreticilerin yazılımlarını birleştirince sorun yaşayabiliyordu. Yeni ZoneAlarm 5 ise bu karışıklığa son veriyor. Öncelikle ZoneAlarm’ın popüler güvenlik duvarı yine bedava geliyor. Security Suite sürümü daha gelişmiş özelliklerle kullanıcılardan ücret talep ederken (Yaklaşık 60 Euro) yeni antivirüslü ZoneAlarm’a (Yaklaşık 20 Euro) Computer Associates’in antivirüs teknolojisi entegre edilmiş bulunuyor. Ancak güzel olan, gerek güvenlik duvarının gerekse virüslere karşı koruma yazılımının (Suite sürümüne bir de çocuk güvenliği sistemi eklenmiş) aynı program arayüzü altında çalışıyor ve kontrol ediliyor olması.



    Artık neredeyse her yazılım üreticisi Internet Security Suite denilen programlar sunuyor. Bu programlara virüsler, hacker’lar ve spam için de tek tek koruma sistemleri eklenmiş oluyor ama bu yapılanma kullanıcının aklını karıştırabiliyor: Çünkü kullanıcı güvenlik duvarını durdurmak, bir virüs tarama işlemi başlatmak ya da spam için filtre ayarlarını değiştirmek için arayüzleri kısmen birbirine benzeyen ayrı modüller çağırmak zorunda kalıyor. Sıklıkla her bir modülde özel bir kullanım konsepti öğrenilmek zorunda kalınıyor. Yani bu Security Suite’lerle konfor satın alınmıyor, yalnızca paradan tasarruf ediliyor.

    ZoneAlarm, dünyanın en popüler güvenlik duvarı (firewall) yazılımıdır. ZoneAlarm, internette güvenliğinizden sorumludur. Ziyaret ettiğiniz web sitelerini, kullandığınız programları ve internet trafiğini her zaman denetler. MSN Messenger, ICQ, Internet Explorer vb. programları açtığınızda ZoneAlarm programların erişmek istedikleri IP adresi ve portu size bildirir. Akabinde karşınıza Allow veya Deny seçeneklerinden birisini seçmeniz gerekmektedir. "Allow" seçeneği programın/uygulamanın çalışmasına izin verirken, "Deny" seçeneği programın/uygulamanın çalışmasını engeller.
