Edgar Allan Poe - Bütün Hikayeleri :
Önceleri başarısız fanzin denemeleriyle başladığı edebiyat yaşamı, 1832'de Saturday Courrier'da basılan beş öyküyle ve 1833'te Baltimore Saturday Visiter tarafından düzenlenen yarışmada "MS. Found in a Bottle" (Şişede Bulunan Elyazması) adlı öyküsüyle birinciliği kazanmasıyla devam etti. 1843'te, Godey's Lady's Book'ta yayımlanan "The Visionary" adlı öyküsüyle adı ülke genelinde duyulmaya başlandı.
Düzyazılarından başka kurgu ve yazım teknikleriyle dikkat çeken "The Raven" (Kuzgun) başta olmak üzere, "Annabel Lee" ve "To Helen" (Helen'e) adlı şiirleriyle de tanınan Poe 7 Ekim 1849'da öldü.

Atasözleri ve Deyimler Sözlüğü (Ömer Asım Aksoy) :
Her dilde atasözleri ve deyimler vardır. Toplumbilim, ruhbilim, eğitbilim, ekonomi, felsefe, tarih, ahlak, folklor… gibi birçok konuları ilgilendiren ve birçok yönlerden inceleme konusu edilmeye değer olan bu ulusal varlıklar, deyiş güzelliği, anlatım gücü, kavram zenginliği bakımından pek önemli dil yapılarıdır.
“Kitabımızın birinci cildinde deyimlerimizin biçim ve kavram özelliklerini, başka niteliklerini incelemiş, genel çizgileriyle tanımını vermiştik. Konuya biraz daha yaklaşırsak görürüz ki bu tanımın içine giren sözler, kimi özellikleriyle birbirlerinden az çok ayrı nitelikler de taşımaktadırlar ve genel bakışla kapsamı geniş olan deyimlerimizi, özel niteliklerine göre birtakım kümelere, çeşitlere ayırma olanağı vardır. Öte yandan bu çeşitlerin bir bölüğüne “deyim” adını vermekte hiç kimse duraksamadığı halde öteki bölüklere “deyim” demek ya da başka adlar takmak konusunda ayrışık düşünceler ileri sürülebilir. Bunun için “deyim” sözcüğünün
kapsamı esnektir. Kimi zaman aynı esneklik, deyimlerin herhangi bir çeşidi ile deyim olmayan sözler arasındaki sınırı çizerken de görülür. Burada, geniş kapsamlı bir bakışla “deyim” adını verdiğimiz sözleri: A. Özel niteliklerine göre çeşitlere ayırmayı deneyeceğiz. B. Bunlarla deyim olmayan sözler arasındaki sınıra ne ölçüde kesinlik verebileceğimizi göstermeye çalışacağız.” (arka kapak)
